There are plenty of environmental animations to compliment the combat and the game even includes parallax background scrolling which is something relatively new for mobile gaming. While the adventure may not look as good as the console versions we know so well, the animations and visuals are surprisingly effective. Kratos can push and pull objects, climb ladders, swing across chasms with Athena's blades, and open the familiar chests with life, mana, and red orbs.

Collecting red orbs throughout the adventure will give players the option to upgrade whichever of their attacks they want. All of these powers can be upgraded along with the weapons through an interface extremely similar to that in the console games. YES NO As God of War fans will know, Kratos isn't just about hacking and slashing and thankfully some of his favorite powers are back like Medusa's head and the Army of Hades. The final result is a fun bloody action-heavy experience that will take anywhere from 2-4 hours to play through. Enemies even have hit boxes so that smacking them in certain areas of their bodies will result in different death animations. With over 110 animations for Kratos's character, a pretty large number of mobile efforts, he'll use familiar moves with Athena's blades, hack enemies into bloody bits, and even pull off plenty of brutal boss mini-games.

All of the bloody mainstays of the franchise are in full effect. While the fact that they're working to create an interesting story that continues the Kratos saga is nice, it's really the gameplay that impressed event attendees. Those of you that have had the pleasure of playing God or War 2 will remember that the pantheon of gods were pretty disillusioned with Kratos's constant warmongering. Using the same writer for the console games, this mobile adventure takes place in between God of War and God of War 2. This first mobile venture for bloodthirsty Kratos isn't a port of either PlayStation 2 titles. While rendered as a 2D sidescroller, the translation of the franchise is amazingly thorough. Not only did it perk the crowd's ears to hear another God of War title was on the way but it looked surprisingly good. Aside from the announcement of a new MMO from SOE's Seattle studio (an announcement embargoed for another month or so), this probably drew the most attention. One of the most surprising happenings at last week's Sony Online Entertainment event down in Los Angeles was the unveiling of God of War for mobile systems.
